This week the project will explore music from INDIA: RAVI SHANKAR, sitar master, plays ragas both solo and with the noted English violinist Yehudi Menuhin. These classic EMI recordings are absolutely stunning; we will hear the musicians sound as if they are ALIVE and IN THE ROOM. The vinyl is that good! My Pakastani friend Zahira will be there to tell us what it was like to grow up with this music. For a brief coda, we will hear the American RY COODER and his bottleneck guitar play with another group of Indian musicians. Great, great stuff.
The event is free (from 7 to 8 pm); tea and refreshments will be served.
